Q&A Series: Thanksgiving

If I'm arrested over Thanksgiving, when will I get out?

There's never a good time to get arrested, but the worst day of the year to be arrested is the day before Thanksgiving. In Minnesota, a person arrested by law enforcement can be held for up to 36 hours until being brought before a judge to set bail and/or conditions of release. However, the day of arrest, legal holidays, and Sundays do not count towards the 36 hours. So for someone arrested on Thanksgiving Eve, he or she could be held over the long holiday weekend until Monday before seeing a judge for a bail hearing.
